Casual sexism in one hour
Design Wales and the Institute of Sustainable Design are organising what’s going to be a lively discussion session on casual sexism in the workplace, providing an opportunity to meet other creatives based in Wales and to address some issues which may impact on your career.
Some of the issues that will be raised include how do we ensure that the younger generation of creative women follow a successful and meaningful career path? How do we make women better negotiators in the workplace to ensure that they have equal access to career development opportunities and to pay? How do we empower women to be proactive about flexible working to benefit both themselves and their workplace? How do we encourage women to speak at conferences? What has changed for women in the past 30 years?
The session will explore the challenges women face working within the creative industries. Three invited speakers including jeweller and designer Karen Dell’Armi and Joel Hughes of Jo Jet, will introduce three provocations pertinent to women today. Each topic will then be opened up for a 15 minute open discussion with the audience.
The aim of this event is to give women working within the creative industries in Wales an opportunity to share their work experiences good and bad. It is also an opportunity to open up the debate about how women can constructively assert their place as equals in the creative sector.
Representatives from Design Wales (ISD), Institute of Sustainable Design, Cardiff Design Festival and Ffotogallery will be present.
